A good gift for a dog owner doesn't depend on knowing the dog's exact neck measurement, unless you already have it. Bowls, waste-bag pouches, beds, carriers and a commissioned portrait avoid guesswork, while a sweater or collar rewards a quick check with the household first. No piece here was sent to us, and no brand paid to be included.

michael aram dog bone bowl, $130

Polished nickel plate over stainless steel, the rim worked as a ring of bones. Made in India by the artisans of Michael Aram's Delhi studio. 8 in across, 2.25 in high; holds 28 oz.

Honest note: hand wash only; do not put nickel plate in the dishwasher.

A small zipped pouch in Spanish saddle leather, cotton and stainless steel that clips to a lead or bag and keeps waste bags out of sight. Made in Spain.

a hand-painted oil portrait by andrea bocedi, from $300

An original oil painting on canvas, painted by hand from photographs in Andrea Bocedi's studio in Poland and signed by the artist. Painting and drying usually take one to two weeks, and booking to delivery is generally two to four weeks depending on size and shipping.

Honest note: if the portrait is a gift, the person giving it books it directly with the artist and receives the finished painting; wagl does not sell vouchers or certificates.
